Consumers more likely to buy Android devices than iPhone according to survey : According to research firm Market Force Research , the average consumer in the US is now more likely to buy an Android device than the iPhone. A survey conducted by the firm found that 34% of respondents planning to buy a smartphone are looking for Android devices and 21% are looking for the iPhone. A mere 12% have eyes on a Blackberry for their next smartphone. Of all the survey respondents about 21% didn’t know what smartphone they were going to buy. The firm also found that 51% of consumers have a smartphone and of those that don’t, 33% plan to buy one in the next six months. Despite Shep claiming “I’m not taking a side on this, I’m telling you what’s going on,” Williams warned Shep that “just by telling the facts, you’re angering a lot of people.”

iPhone 'becoming less popular' - Telegraph I'm an Android man myself. I'm sure Apple is in no danger of closing shop. They still have the Cult of Mac crowd who will ALWAYS stay with Apple. Apple does make good products and they are probably the BEST at marketing. I think a closer competition is a good thing. It keeps driving them to make better devices.

What Happens When You Stick Your Head Into a Particle Accelerator Today I found out what happens when you stick your head into a particle accelerator. Exhibit A: Anatoli Petrovich Bugorski, a Russian scientist who has the distinction of being the only person to ever stick their head in a running particle accelerator. Shockingly, he also managed to survive the ordeal and all things considered, come out without too much damage. Bugorski was a researcher at the Institute for High Energy Physics in Protvino. Specifically he worked with the Soviet particle accelerator the synchrotron U-70. On July 13, 1978, Bugorski was checking a malfunctioning piece of equipment. As he was leaning over the piece of equipment he stuck his head through the part of the accelerator that the proton beam was running through. Supposedly, he saw a flash that was “brighter than a thousand suns” at this point. Interestingly, he did not feel any pain when this happened.

This is pretty crazy.  I hadn't seen this kind of footage of the damage at Christchurch.  I had heard they had a bad earthquake but damn!

Its been about 5 years since I stopped doing the mrquick.net blog. I had gotten tired of doing it.  Plus with myspace and facebook, it seemed a little like it had become redundant. But recently I've had several people mention the old site and sort of nudge me into possibly bringing it back. I'm bringing it out of retirement.  In a slightly different form.  Before, I did a photo of the day, link of the day and a post of the day.  The new mrquick.net  is going to be a little more free form. I'll be posting photos, links, videos, whatever happens to catch my attention.  I also be posting my photos, thoughts, occasionally a video of mine and events I want to help promote, be involved in or want to go to. If you don't come by daily, at least come around once a week to catch up.  I've started off with a few quick items so make sure you go to the main page and not just this post. Later...

This is a video I shot in Chicago last year.  Part of what I like about it is that it gives you a better feel for what the sculpture is about.  You see the movement.  People coming in and out.  Birds flying through the scene. Plus it reminds me of the great trip we had.
