oldschoolcelebrities: Nina Simone After dropping out of Julliard for lack of funds, Simone turned to jazz, blues, and folk music which she played in Atlanta’s clubs during the 1950s. She turned into a loud voice within the Civil Rights Movement of the 60′s releasing songs such as “Mississippi Goddamn” which was in response to the assassination of Medgar Evers. In response to Martin Luther King Jr’s death, she released “Why the King of Love is Dead.”
